Media Advisory  12/30/2005 :::

Because of testing conducted by officials in North Carolina, Diamond Pet Foods has added Diamond Professional for Adult Dogs to the list of recalled products manufactured in our Gaston, S.C. facility and distributed in the eastern U.S.

The product, Diamond Professional for Adult Dogs, contains a ‚"Best By‚" date of January 29, 2007.

Testing performed by the North Carolina agriculture department showed a single bag of the product contained high levels of aflatoxin. The product was discontinued in August of this year.

According to Mark Brinkmann, chief operations officer for Diamond Pet Foods, the company will continue working closely with state officials and will not hesitate to take action if testing warrants.

Customers should return any unused product to their retailers and should consult their veterinarian if pets show any signs of illness. Complete information can be found at our website, or by calling the Diamond Pet Foods Customer Information Center toll-free at 1-866-214-6945.

WINTER PET SAFETY

   • Please keep your pets indoors in freezing temperatures. Very cold weather is unsafe for people and animals for an extended period of time.

   • If your pet spends an extensive amount of time in your yard, make sure it has a  safe warm place available such as a dog house which is located in the sun and faced away from the north wind.

   • Check outdoor water bowls on a regular basis. Remember water will freeze quickly outside.

   • Cozy up with your pet indoors this winter. Pets prefer to spend time with their owners and not alone. A happy, well-behaved pet is usually one that is receiving attention from its owner(s) on a regular basis.

   • Always make sure your pet is wearing a comfortable collar with proper identification.

7 STEPS TO A HAPPIER PET

  • Make sure your pet wears an identification tag to enable him to be returned to you if lost.

  • To prevent destructive animal behavioral problems, make sure you enroll your new puppy or dog in behavioral training classes.

  • Animal behavioral problems can be health related. Make sure your pet has a complete medical exam by a veterinarian at least once a year.

  • Prepare for disasters. Make sure you have a plan for your pet in the event of a     hurricane, tornado, fire or flood.

  • Plan for your pet's future in case something happens to you.

  • Learn how to avoid dog bites, and how to prevent your dog from biting.

  • Please spay or neuter your pet. Also, use the new United States Postal
Service Spay/Neuter Stamp to help raise awareness.
